Butere ACK Diocese Bishop Timothy Wambunya has said Butere Girls’ High School principal Dorah Okalo was transferred because of poor results.

Some leaders led by Mumias East MP Ben Washiali have defended the principal, saying she was being fought by the government and vowed to ensure she returns to the school.

Okalo was transferred a week ago to Nyakach Girls’ High School in Nyanza.

Speaking to the Star on the phone yesterday, Wambunya said he had no problem with the principal other than poor performance.

He said the school did not post even one ‘A’ in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams, despite being a national school.

“The school has posted a 0.5 per cent improvement in national results every year for the last five years,” he said.

Butere Girls’ is the only national girls school in Kakamega county.

He said he will remain the school chairman as its sponsor, until the results improve.

Wambunya denied any involvement in the principal’s transfer.

He accused Okalo of colluding with politicians and officials of the Kakamega government to spread falsehoods about her transfer.

Wambunya said reports he was fighting the outgoing principal on money matters were diversionary tactics.

He said he is ready to work with whoever the Teachers’ Service Commission posts to the school.
