Champions Butali Sugar Warriors hockey men’s team have signed centre forward Lawrence Okubasu of United States International University of Africa in a bid to beef up the squad ahead of the Africa Club Championship set for later this year.

Butali head coach Cliffe Okello confirmed the development, saying Okubasu was impressive for his club last season and his arrival at the club is a welcome boost.

“We believe Okubasu’s arrival will strengthen the squad ahead of the season as we seek to defend the title and win the Africa Club Championship,” said the tactician. He added, “The agenda for this club is to have a variety of players so that when veterans decide to quit, we have a back-up plan,” he added. Okubasu will, however, compete for the position alongside regular and evergreen Zack Aura, Frank Anangwe, Emmanuel Simiyu and Vincent Otieno.
