The Kenya National Union of Teachers has warned the Teachers Service Commission officers to stop forcing teachers to sign performance contracts and appraisals.

KNUT National ViceSecretary General Hesbon Otieno said they have received reports that some TSC officers in counties are pressuring teachers and principals to sign the contracts.

Otieno said the matter is currently under a conciliator and a meeting has been scheduled with TSC on May 25. He said TSC field officers should not behave as if there is no law in the country.

He said the TSC, KNUT and the Ministry of Labour are discussing the matter through the conciliator and will come up with the best way of implementing performance contract and appraisal.

“They should not push our principals and teachers before we finish the process,” he said in Kisumu during the Third National Early Childhood Education Summit yesterday.

He said they are in the process of conciliation to understand better what they are getting into before they can officially sign the contracts.
