Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is working with the Emirates Group to make the coastal city the carrier's 151st destination.

In a statement on Thursday, Joho said the agreement is in the final stages, including aligning key priorities, to enhance the 'Tukutane Mombasa' experience.

The Governor had a meeting with airline executives Adnan Kazim, the DSVP Strategic Planning, Revenue Optimisation and Aeropolitical Affairs; and Trevor Chong, Vice President Route Planning and Economics.

"I shared the promotion strategy that the county has embarked on in attracting visitors from new markets beyond the traditional markets and the prospects of the hotel chain Sheraton, and various cruise liners in enhancing its experience," Joho stated.

He said once the planes start flying to Mombasa, it will boost the tourism and hospitality sector in the county.

"The meeting underscored the the importance of protecting the county's natural heritage and hospitality of its destination by ensuring we tell our own story in order to make it live up to the reality of Mombasa."

Joho has appointed a team to fast-track the feasibility of Mombasa as a destination. The team is led by Transport and Agriculture trade executive, Taufiq Balala, and Trevor Chong.

The Governor's delegation to the meeting included Finance and Environment executive members, Hazel Koitaba and Lewa Mtana, and the Economic Advisor, Ahmed Farah.
