An MP has called for the arrest of opposition leaders, for property damage and harm caused by the protests on Monday.
Alice Wahome said on Wednesday that Cord leaders have failed to control their supporters, who turn up for the anti-IEBC protests armed with stones.
She said as Kenyans condemn the police for using too much force, they should also demand the organisers of the protests to be held accountable for failing to urge their supporters to engage in peaceful demonstrations.
“Why have we not heard the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and other Cord leaders calling for peace amongst the protesters?” the Kandara MP asked.
"The violence we have seen is their doing, and even though it is unacceptable for the police to kill or maim, organisers of any protests that turns violent should be held responsible," she said.
Wahome was speaking at Kariti grounds during the re-launch of the NYS youth empowerment programme that has employed 1,264 youths in her constituency.
She condemned Cord for using youths to cause chaos for their selfish interests, saying Opposition leaders have a duty to engage the law to effect the changes they want.
“Raila is hell bent to seek the presidency using chaos and I am asking those who turn up for the demonstrations to evaluate the situation and ask themselves if there is any benefit in continuing to engage in conflict and violence,” she said.
Her sentiments were echoed by Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua who said the protests to agitate for the removal of the IEBC commissioners are “shameful and childish” because the opposition knows what the law says about the commission.
