West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has asked Senator John Lonyangapuo to stop fighting him and instead focus on getting more development funds for the county.

He also accused the senator of engaging in early campaigns that do not help residents.

Kachapin said West Pokot county gets Sh4 billion compared to neighbouring counties, which get more that Sh11 billion.

“My senator is asleep on his job. Why is it that Turkana county gets more than Sh11 billion, while we get only Sh4 billion. Turkana and West Pokot face the same problems,” he said.

“The constitution clearly stipulates the roles of each elected member. I don’t know why the senator is always questioning my leadership style.”

He asked Lonyangapuo to clearly declare his political stand.

“The senator is my age-mate and I don’t understand why he is against my government. Let him declare his interest openly,’ he said.

He asked the senator to wait until he completes his two terms and then they can shuffle their positions.

“If he is really interested in my seat, he should wait until I complete my two terms then he can become the governor,” Kachapin said.

The governor also asked all leaders from the region to stop inciting the youth as election nears.

“Bad politics and incitement will not help us develop this county. Let's focus on mature politics,” he said.

He asked residents to give him time to deliver his promises.

Kachapin also asked senators to stop engaging in early campaigns.

“Senators have failed in executing

their constitutional mandates of ensuring counties get more funds but are now fighting to take their governors’ positions,” he said
