Lugari MP Ayub Savula yesterday said Cord leader Raila Odinga is "embarrassing himself" by leading street demonstrations against the IEBC.

“Raila is using outdated and unorthodox means of bringing about change at the IEBC. In this era people talk and agree,” he said.

Speaking on the phone yesterday, Savula said Raila should mobilise Cord MPs and senators to engage their Jubilee counterparts in discussions on how to reconstitute the electoral agency.

He also criticised Jubilee for planning demonstrations in Nairobi next week to counter the weekly anti-IEBC protests by Cord.

Raila wrote to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, seeking to dialogue on the reform of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ahead of 2017.

This came a day after it emerged that two committees of the National Assembly and Senate were seeking to engage and deliberate on how to iron out the issue on electoral process.

Raila and Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula have been leading weekly anti-IEBC demonstrations to pile pressure on the commission to disband.

Savula said Raila should learn to respect the law and stop using "uncivilised" methods to be heard.

“They are simply seeking cheap publicity because much as their concerns are genuine, the manner in which they want to pass them across makes the whole thing a mockery,” he said.

Savula said Raila should respect himself as former Prime Minister and employ the right procedures in seeking the removal of the IEBC commissioners.

He said the push to replace the current commissioners could fail, because of the wrong approach by Cord leaders.

Meanwhile, Savula has denied he has joined Jubilee.

He termed reports he has defected to Jubilee as "cheap propaganda by his political detractors".

Savula said he only supports the Jubilee government on development issues.

“I remain in ANC, defecting from UDF now will result to a by-election,” he said.
