Jacob Juma's requiem mass set for Thursday

The Cord Secretariat will coordinate the burial of businessman Jacob Juma who was shot dead last Thursday.

It said a requiem mass will be held All Saints Cathedral at 10am

on Thursday before the body is taken to Uhuru Park for public viewing.

Cord principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang'ula will attend the viewing. Raila has accused the Jubilee government of being behind Juma's murder.

The body will then be taken to Juma's Karen home for a night vigil. Juma was in the head and three times in the chest as he joined the Southern by-pass on his way back home.

The body will be flown to Kakamega on Friday and a public viewing held at Masinde Muliro Gardens.

It will also be viewed at Kanduyi Stadium in Bungoma town.

Juma's body will lie in state at his home on Friday night ahead of the burial at Mungore village, Khasoko area in Bumula constituency.

Cord has demanded that President Uhuru Kenyatta set up a commission of inquiry into Juma's murder.

“We want an open-minded investigation to get who killed Jacob Juma. This was not an ordinary killing by ordinary robbers,” said Moses Wetang'ula, the Senate Minority leader and Bungoma Senator.

The Kenya Diaspora Alliance that the people he named before his death, as would be killers, be treated as initial suspects, apprehended and interrogated.

"It is yet another chilling reminder of the ugly nature of assassinations that characterized Kenya whenever someone is considered a critic by some quarters," said chairman Lameck Siage.
