Three political parties have announced they will field candidates for the Mosiro ward by-election in Kajiado.

The seat fell vacant after the death of MCA Peter Kurrinyo mid last month.

ODM's Judy Pareno, Nick Salat of Kanu and Tarayia Kores of Jubilee yesterday said they will field candidates.

Kajiado speaker Johnson Osoi wrote to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announcing the vacancy. The electoral agency is expected to announce the polling date.

The declaration of the vacant seat opens a new chapter in the ward that went against the Jubilee tide in 2013.

Pareno said the seat belongs to Cord and the party will fight for it. On the other hand, Kores said Jubilee will reclaim the seat from the opposition.

Salat said Kanu is determined to make inroads in Kajiado and has identified a candidate to run for the Mosiro seat.

The three leaders spoke to the Star on the phone, saying all candidates will meet at the ballot.

Governor David Nkedianye of Cord is said to have locked horns with Joseph ole Lenku’s side of Jubilee as they seek to woo a younger brother of Kurrinyo.

Ntipapa Kurrinyo, who is a first year student at the Catholic University, has become a darling of Cord and Jubilee. He is said to be one of the best candidates among the nine who have so far announced interest.

Kores, who is also seeking to be elected Kajiado governor in 2017, has also approached the younger Kurrinyo to be part of his team.

Kores has teamed up with Daniel Nina to fight Lenku, who has sought alliances with Kajiado North’s politician, Solomon Kinyanjui and both teams aim to win Ntipapa.

The politician is said to be having another option in case he misses out on Ntipapa.

He is said to have kept a wild card on his laps with an eye on Jonathan Koroine, who lost the seat to Kurrinyo by 68 votes in 2013.

Another popular candidate, Emmanuel Puruo, is being sought by Kanu under the leadership of Hamilton Parseina, who has been traversing the county in the last few weeks with their chairman, Gideon Moi.

Others who have shown interest in the seat are Daniel Motomba, Sasi Tikashi, Francis Seina, Peter Tirishe, Jackson Puruo, John Motomba and Ken Sasi.
