Nyando MP Fred Outa has claimed that his life is in danger after a contingent of police officers surrounded his rural home on Saturday night.

Outa, who was in Kisumu town at the time the officers were spotted, said he received several calls from his constituents after they noticed the officers at a round 7pm.

"Last night around 7.30 pm, I was still in Kisumu town when I got a call that a number of police officers were surrounding my home," he said on Sunday May 8.

The MP said he wondered what the officers were pursuing after they failed to talk to the guards at the home.

“What worries me is that they did not call me or even come right inside the compound to inquire about my whereabouts. Why camp outside my house until midnight?” he asked.

He appealed to Kisumu police chief to explain what the officers were doing at his compound without his knowledge.

Outa told the media in Kisumu on Sunday that he was not aware of the crime he had committed to warrant the action of the police officers.

He said it would have been wiser for the officers spotted at the residence to communicate to him their mission.

He said the officers ought to have issued a summon or leave a message at his home but they choose to stay long into the night before leaving.

Outa also appealed to the Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet to look into the matter noting that he fears for his life.

“I want to ask the IG to help me understand what his officers were looking for at my rural home. I cannot take this matter lightly,” he said.

Outa plans to make a formal complaint at the Kisumu police station on Monday in the company of his lawyer.

He noted that if it is a scheme by the government to intimidate him as an opposition lawmaker who has been in the forefront to call for change, then he will not be cowed.

“I am in the Firimbi movement and I am also against IEBC and will continue participating in peaceful demonstrations to have the electoral commission disbanded,” he said.

When the Regionl Police Boss Willy Lugusa was contacted, he said he would get back on the claims by the legislator.
