Police are pursuing fraudsters behind a "well-organised scam"
to con members of the public during recruitment exercises.
They said the criminals sell fake documents and ask for payments in cash or via
mobile money transfer services.
"The criminals roam around police headquarters and stations pretending they are working with senior police officers in issuing documents for joining police colleges," read a on Friday.
"The recruitment of police constables was finalised and successful candidates reported to respective police colleges," it was noted.
Victims were encouraged to report the incidents or contact the National Police Service Commission through emergency toll free numbers 999, 112 and 911.
On March 11, NPSC chairman Johnston Kavuludi
reports
that a police recruitment was to be carried out on April
20.
Kavuludi said the call, which circulated on social media, was a replication of the 2015 newspaper advertisement and was
therefore
false, misleading, and mischievous.
In January, Kavuludi said
of police ranks for 22 years using forged papers.
Kavuludi said vetting revealed an intricate web of mobile money transfers. The web involved junior officers who regularly send cash to their bosses through M-Pesa.
