Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Senator Kimani Wamatangi on Thursday clashed at a senate hearing over alcohol.

Kabogo accused Wamatangi of spreading rumours that his government was providing funds to buy alcohol in the county.

“I am sitting on an SMS sent to me by a member of the press this morning, that Senator Wamatangi has been pushing a reporter to report that Kiambu county government is financing buying of alcohol,” said Kabogo.

Kabogo was appearing before the senate committee after he defied summons to answer budget queries back in 2014.

The committee questioned the credibility of the audit report as the Governor had taken too long to appear before them since he was summoned almost two years ago.

"I have no fear of audit, I have nothing to do with the preparation of audit queries and answers," answered Kabogo.

But Wamatangi

denied the allegations saying the media was "free to report anything", adding that as senator, he had the right to know how funds are spent.

“Every shilling allocated to Kiambu County, I have the constitutional right to come here and question it, all these people sitting here from the press are at will to go and report what they want to,” he said.
