Contractors in Bungoma have been warned against continuing construction of condemned buildings.

County commissioner Mohamed Maalim has said buildings condemned by the National Construction Authority will be demolished.

Speaking on Tuesday at his office in Bungoma town, he said contractors who ignore the directive will be arrested.

“You have seen what happened in Nairobi’s Huruma Estate. Some crooked NCA and county officials colluded with the owners of the building to put up an uninhabitable building. We don’t want to see a repeat of the same in Bungoma,” Maalim said. “Those who pocketed cash to illegally approve extensions will be arrested.”

Maalim criticised people removing NCA demolition marks on condemned buildings. “How can they continue as if there is nothing wrong? This is a disaster in the making,” he said.
