Cord leader Raila odinga has criticised Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet for banning officers attached to VIPs from escorting them to protests.

He said the police department is independent. Boinnet last week said police who protect Cord VIPs during their planned protests against the IEBC risk disciplinary action.

“Boinnet is worse than his predecessor. Kimayo was an intelligent man. How can Boinnet say that all police officers guarding VIPs will be disciplined if they protect leaders who participate in demonstrations?” Raila said.

“Do you want Kalonzo, Wetang’ula and me to be molested and harmed or what is your intention by withdrawing our security during demonstrations? That is violating the law because as the former Prime Minister and Kalonzo as the former Vice President, we are entitled to state protection.”

Raila spoke on Sunday on Sirongo Beach in Bondo constituency.

Present were Siaya Senator James Orengo and MPs Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Fred Outa (Nyando) and Silvance Osele (Kasipul).

Raila said Cord’s protests are unstoppable. He said Jubilee leaders are “busybodies” and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials should resign.

OPPOSITION IS ‘UNSTOPPABLE’

Cord leader Raila Odinga said its protests are unstoppable. He said Jubilee leaders are “busybodies”. Raila said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission officials have no business being in office, “because they have violated the constitution on many occasions and cannot be trusted to oversee next year’s election”. Raila said Cord is willing to negotiate with Jubliee on electoral reforms. But he said he will not negotiate under duress.
