The husband to a former ODM official was stabbed to death in South C, Nairobi, after a disagreement with his son.

The late Monica Amolo's husband, Michael Amolo, was stabbed several times in the head and neck in an attack on April 24.

Amolo was allegedly stabbed by his 25-year-old son, identified only as

Dad Junior, following an argument over exams that he (the son) had skipped.

Amolo was a

paediatrician at Aga Khan University Hospital in Kisumu. Monica, who was Homa Bay acting ODM chairperson, on February 10, 2015.

Relatives recounted that Amolo

visited his children on Saturday, April 23, but only met his two daughters as Junior was not around.

They said the doctor decided to wait for his son until midnight since they did not know where he had gone.

Lang'ata OCPD Elijah Mwangi said Amolo questioned his daughters on the

whereabouts

of his son, who was a student at Kenya School of Flying, Wilson Airport.

He said the doctor wanted to know why his son had skipped his exams.

Mwangi said that when Junior returned the next day, his father demanded to know if he

was ready to write the exams

but that this resulted in a bitter exchange.

He said Junior went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed his father. The attacker is said to have then

turned on his sister when she tried to intervene.

Mwangi said the girl

fled to an upstairs room, locked herself in and made phone calls for help.

He said Junior still pursued her but gave up after she pleaded persistently.

Good

Samaritans,

relatives

and police took Amolo to Mater Hospital where he died on Monday.

Junior appeared in court last week and was remanded pending a hearing on May 5.

"The young man will definitely be charged with murder after the death of the father," Mwangi told the Star on Tuesday.

In a condolence message via Facebook, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang eulogised Amolo as a "gentleman par excellence" and a man of composure, humility and keenness of thought.

Kajwang said he was with the family in Thuon Gweno village, Ndhiwa

in February, when the first anniversary of Monica's death was marked.

"As one of the leaders who benefited from his sacrifice and wisdom, I will stand firmly with the family during and after this period of mourning," he said.
