Deputy President William Ruto has apologised to Kenyans for the poor drainage systems in Nairobi.

He said the clogged water ways that has worsened the flooding situation in the country will be fixed.

"Apologies to passengers and motorists for braving flooded roads and residents who have flooded houses," Ruto

said

via twitter on Saturday.

The DP also sent his condolences to families whose loved ones died due to the heavy rains that hit Nairobi and its environs on Friday.

At least 14 people were killed in separate incidences related to the raging floods.

"The national and county government will take steps to alleviate the situation," Ruto said.

Kenya Red Cross said approximately 150 households have been affected.

Some of the displaced persons, the agency said, are currently camping at the chief's camp in Kinyago village, Eastleigh.

Other affected roads include; Dennis Pritt, Bunyala, Commercial Street and Uhuru Highway.

Of the 14, seven were killed after a building at Huruma estate on Friday evening.

Rescue operations continued for the better part of Saturday at the site of the collapsed building.

Four people died on Friday after DoD perimeter wall crumbled on Lenana Road in Nairobi due to the heavy rains.

Governor Evans Kidero said "The county government will mobilize resources to deal with the effects of the floods".

For the past two days, motorists have spent several hours on traffic after the floods
