When Kamba leaders visited State House, Macharia said road was almost complete

Two Jubilee politicians from Kitui county have accused Roads CS James Macharia of misleading them that the tarmacking of Mwingi-Tseikuru road is almost complete.

Jubilee affairs Mwingi region coordinator Josephat Mulyungi and county assembly minority leader Alex Nganga urged Macharia to set the record straight on a statement he made on Wednesday.

The CS spoke when President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted Ukambani leaders and professionals in State House, Nairobi. Mulyungi and Nganga were part of the delegation.

The only tarmac on the road is a 30km stretch from Mwingi town to Kamuwongo, which was done before the March 4, 2013 elections.

The duo on Thursday said contrary to Macharia’s statement, there is no construction work currently on the 100km road. They said Macharia could either have made a serious error or was simply peddling lies.

During the visit to State House, the delegation led by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua had, among the items on their wish-list, a request for the tarmacking of the Kibwezi-Kitui-Mwingi-Tseikuru-Meru-Isiolo eastern corridor road.

The PSCU on its Twitter handle quoted Macharia as saying: “Kibwezi-Mutomo-Kitui road will be advertised tomorrow and by the first week of June we will award tenders.”

Nganga said: “Although I belong to Jubilee, I like honesty. I know there is no work going on the Mwingi-Tseikuru road. I cannot stand and see our people fed on lies.”
