Former Africa champions Kenya Prisons women’s volleyball team continued to falter at the ongoing African Women’s Club Championship in Tunis, going down 3-1(25-17,21-25, 27-25, 25-20) to hosts Cfaxien in the play off for fifth and eighth positions yesterday.

The David Lungaho coached side failed to impress against another Tunisian side Carthage 3-1 (25-19,25-22,25-27,25-18) in the last quarters-final match on Thursday night.

With the loss, Prisons will again wait to meet the looser between GSP of Algeria and El Shams Of Egypt to play for positions 7 and 8 today.

Kenya Prisons last won the African title in 2013 when the event was held in Nairobi. They went on to surrender the title to hosts GSP in 2014, they then went ahead and gave the annual event a wide berth last year.

Many had hoped for an all Kenyan affair in the finals, but these hopes went up in smoke.

Asked about the performance of the once decorated team, the teams libero and regular national team player Eizabeth Wanyama regretted the development but was quick to note they can only get better in future championship.

“Of course we were all hoping for the best results.”
