Kenya Power’s Rang’ala substation has broken down, interrupting electricity supply in Siaya county for three weeks.

Kenya Power Siaya county business manager Calvin Jagongo said because of a technical problem, more than 26,000 power consumers suffer frequent outages.

He said they now use one alternative line from Kisumu, more than 100km away, to bridge the deficit, but supply is still erratic. Jagongo blamed the Kenya Transmission Regulatory Company’s delay in repairing the equipment.

“We have done our part and only waiting for KTRACO to offer technical support,” he said.

Jagongo said KTRACO is their partner and provides maintenance. He was addressing the press on Thursday in his office. Jagongo urged the public to be patient.
