A businessman linked to the Sh200 million bribery allegations against Supreme Court judge Philip Tunoi yesterday said he received a “veiled threat” from accuser Geoffrey Kiplagat.

Mike Njeru said Kiplagat sent him an email containing his affidavit with the subject ‘soma nusu’ (read this half) as a threat.

Njeru and Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero’s PA John Onsogo were mentioned in Kiplagat’s affidavit as people who allegedly reached out to him to influence the judge to rule in Kidero’s favour in a petition challenging his election.

Yesterday, Njeru said he tried to call “my friend” Kiplagat after receiving the email “but he did not pick up my calls”. Testifying before the tribunal investigating the bribery allegations, the businessman said he reached out to Onsogo to find out if he too had received an email from Kiplagat.

“When I got the email I called my good friend John Onsogo and asked him if there is anything he did or if he was involved with the allegations in the affidavit,” Njeru said. He said Onsogo assured him he had done nothing.

Njeru said he was neither involved in the alleged bribery or the petition. He denied Kidero asked him for help with the petition. Njeru said he saw Tunoi for the first time at the tribunal.
