Lucy Kibaki body arrives Sunday, 3-day national mourning planned

The body of former First Lady Lucy Kibaki will arrive in Nairobi from London

at 5am

on Sunday.

Mama Lucy died at

Bupa Cromwell Hospital

on Tuesday morning after being

.

Lucy, who was wife of former President Mwai Kibaki,

died aged 82.

Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe said

three days of national mourning will be marked.

Kiraithe said there will also be an opportunity for the public to sign condolence books which will be placed at several locations in Nairobi and county headquarters countrywide.

In Nairobi, the books will be placed at

Holy Family Basilica and

Consolata Shrine in Westlands.

The spokesman said a

national working committee has been set up to oversee the burial arrangements.

He said

the burial date will be announced later.

The committee is composed of government officials and family members.

Mama Lucy

fell ill in March and was

at the Nairobi Hospital's

Intensive Care Unit. She

had earlier been taken to Gertrude's Children's Hospital for emergency care.

The former First Lady

was flown out of the country for further treatment. Her

family said she was suffering from

.

In a condolence message on Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said Lucy will be remembered for her immense contributions to the country's development.

The former First Lady

chaired the

Organization of the

40 African First Ladies Against HIV/Aids.

She was also known for

supporting disadvantaged and disabled people; a hospital 'Mama Lucy Kibaki' was opened in her honour.
