President Uhuru Kenyatta will visit Ukambani region next month.

The president made the announcement after meeting a delegation of over 10,000 leaders and professionals from the region at the State House gardens.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Health CS Cleopa Mailu led the delegation.

The meeting was attended by DP William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries, and leaders from the three Ukambani counties of Kitui, Machakos and Makueni.

The meeting comes just two weeks after a similar one between the president and leaders from Kitui.

The President, his deputy, together with a number of Cabinet Secretaries, first held a meeting with elected leaders from the region before joining the thousands of other leaders for an all-inclusive meeting at State House gardens.

"I welcome all of you Ukambani leaders to State House and it is good we are discussing development. I honor the democratic choice of the people. The voice of the people is the voice of God. I did that in 2002 when I vied and in 2013 too," Uhuru said on his twitter handle.

During his visit to the three Ukambani counties on 19th to 21st May 19-21 the head of state is expected to inspect water, land and health promises as well as take a

University charter to Machakos.

Governor Mutua in his statement welcomed the move and condemned those who have always criticized what president had done.

"Some leaders in Ukambani have been in Government for many years and they did nothing, allow me to ask of what use are they,?why should we continue being leaders of poverty? We will work hard to enrich our people through development," Mutua wrote on his twitter handle.
