Police in Bungoma have intensified the search for an ex-Sabaot Land Defense Force suspect who escaped from a prison vehicle transporting him to Bungoma from Kimilili law courts two weeks ago. Speaking to the Star yesterday, county commissioner Maalim Mohammed said they suspect Timothy Kitai, alias Cheparakach, is hiding in Mt Elgon Forest. “We want him dead or alive,” he said

Mohammed said Kitai had on several occasions been arrested and charged with robbery with violence. “Kitai jumped out of the van alongside Micah Kibet, who was rearrested in a sugarcane plantation, but Kitai is still at large. We want the public to volunteer any information that will lead to his arrest,” he said. Mohammed said the duo disappeared into a sugarcane plantation at Khachonge market. He said the vehiclecontained seven prisoners. “We suspect foul playby our officers and we are going to take disciplinary measures against them for negligence that led to the escape of a criminal, whom we have used a lot of resources to apprehend,” Mohammed said.
