Haki Africa wants Parliament to adopt and discuss a private draft bill they have come up with to safeguard migrant domestic workers. The draft bill places the responsibility of all migrant workers on the Kenyan government, executive director Hussein Khalid said.

“If passed, the government will have to ensure they protect the domestic migrant workers from oppressive employers,” he told the Star in Mombasa yesterday. Khalid and programmes coordinator Francis Auma said the bill will also require recruitment agents to deposit Sh1 million with the government for use in case a migrant worker complains of torture and wants to come back.
