Muriuki beats top field to win monthly shoot crown

Memba Muriuki beat a strong field of 80 shooters to win the monthly National Gun Owners Association of Kenya practical pistol shooting competition at the Kenya Regiment Rifle Club on Saturday.

Muriuki, who finished second during the March contest, won gold medal in the experts’ class. His accuracy and judicious speed accounted for his victory, raking in 58.55 points. He was followed by Frank Ambundo in the second place with 60.68 points and Robert Nyamongo, winner in March’s competition (60.02), who garnered 60.74.

NGAO Kenya secretary general Anthony Wahome improved his March performance from 89.61 to 67.00 points to clinch the sharp-shooter class trophy. Muhammed Omar once again finished second with 67.52 whereas Sammy Onyango (84.33) came in third. Wahome congratulated NGAO Kenya members for continued efforts to advance their skills in gun handling.

“There has been an improvement in terms of skills, accuracy and speed among the shooters. This is a promising trend and going forward, Kenya will be a force to reckon with in international pistol competitions,” noted Wahome. Samuel Chacha of General Service Unit outdid all members of the Disciplined Forces to clinch first position in the Disciplined Forces category. He garnered 64.11 points while Muhammed Ahmed Kenya Police Traffic Department came in a distant second in 68.28. Kenya Prisons’ Daniel Kyalo was third (75.89). Martin Mbutura led the marksman category with 74.99 points while Alex Migwi w and Alamin Lubisia completed the podium. Martin Mulunga won the novice class, followed by Josey Atambo and Soi Kilonzo respectively.
