Kenya women’s cricket team ended their long losing streak with wins over Uganda and Tanzania as the ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers bowled off in Harare this morning.

The 13 runs win over Uganda in the morning match ended an 8-year losing streak at the hands of the multiple East Africa champions while the 58 runs win over Tanzania was Kenya’s against them since December 2010. Mary Wambui and Daisy Wairimu starred with the bowl to lead Kenya to the historic win after restricting Uganda to 77 for 7 in their pursuit for 99 runs.

Wambui and Wairimu came into the attack when Uganda needed 46 from seven overs and put a match winning performance by picking up four wickets for 23 runs to hand Kenya the elusive win. “The girls played well and I hope this match will give us a platform for the next matches,” manager Steve Tikolo said. In the second match of the day, Mary Belle bagged three wickets as Kenya beat Tanzania by 58 runs.

Chasing 99 to win, Tanzania managed only 40 runs for nine. Juma had starred with the bat for Kenya with 30 runs from 31 balls. She put on a second wicket stand of 52 runs with Banja (20). Adhiambo and Bhakita added on 11 runs each as Kenya reached 98 runs.
