Counties and politicians in the North Rift are preparing to ferry supporters to Nakuru for the Saturday prayer rally to be attended by President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto.

Some politicians yesterday were busy making arrangements to hire buses to transport as many supporters as possible to attend the prayers. “We are preparing to take more than 30 buses and other vehicles of supporters from Kesses alone,” MP James Bett said.

He said they are overjoyed with the decision by the ICC to free Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang. Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka said hundreds of county residents will be ferried to the rally, where 2017 politics is expected to dominate speeches.

Buses have also been hired to ferry elders, women and youth from Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties. “We have to work towards uniting all Kenyans and that’s why the people of Bungoma will be attending the prayer rally,” Lusaka said.

Some Jubilee supporters in the region have asked the government to set aside a fund to compensate victims of the 2007-08 violence.

TNA patron Joseph Wainaina and Pastor Sammy Mbugua said many of those who lost their relatives or suffered injuries are yet to be assisted by the government.
