Three suspected thugs were shot dead and a pistol recovered in a botched robbery in Utawala area, Nairobi, on Monday evening.

Police also recovered

Sh550,000, which they said had been stolen on Kangundo Road, from a businessman who was taking it to a bank.

They said they

pursued the suspects to the area after they were alerted.

The bodies were taken to City Mortuary.

Heightened police operations have resulted in several botched robberies across the city.

On February 23, five suspected robbers were

on the Thika Superhighway by plain-clothes police detectives.

Witness Erick Odero said he saw people jumping out of a saloon car and shooting at a white pick-up.

Starehe police boss Irene Kemeli said officers recovered two Ceska pistols and 12 rounds of ammunition during the 11.45am incident.
