State House officials were in Nakuru on Saturday as preparations for the weekend's thanksgiving rally got into high gear.

Members of the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit visited Afraha Stadium and also attended a meeting with local leaders and the administration.

President Uhuru Kenyatta called the rally following the collapse of Deputy President William Ruto's ICC case last Tuesday.

Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang were facing charges of crimes against humanity in relation to the 2007-08 post-election violence.

But the court ruled last week they have no case to answer.

Uhuru and Ruto are expected to kick off their 2017 re-election bid in Nakuru, having launched the 2013 one at the same venue on December 2, 2012.

The team from State House included Thomas Kwaka, James Kinyua and David Nzioka, who are responsible for organising the President's events.

Also present was Dennis Itumbi who is in charge of the President's digital communication.

Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua

said it was great privilege that Uhuru and Ruto chose Afraha Stadium to hold the special prayer rally.

He urged residents not to misbehave or heckle at the rally.

The governor was heckled last month at a rally.

He said the Afraha Stadium has a holding capacity of 500,000 people and every Kenyan is welcome to attend Saturday prayers.

Security will be enhanced, Mbugua said.

Nakuru East MP David Gikaria said no aspirant will be allowed to enter at the stadium with a banner.

The only banners allowed at the stadium will be of the President and Deputy President.

Gikaria also urged county leaders not to pay supporters to cheer them at the rally.

He said some leaders want to hire people to shout down Mbugua.

“This is not a political rally and that is why we are asking fellow county leaders not to hire a small crowd to heckle the governor,” Gikaria said.

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri

said the entire world will be focused on Nakuru town and those attending the rally should portray a good picture.
