Migingo Island row to be solved diplomatically, says CS Omamo

The Migingo Island row will be resolved through diplomatic negotiations with the Uganda government, Defence CS Raychelle Omamo said.

Omamo said the stand-off between Kenya and Uganda does not warrant a military approach as "Uganda is a friendly nation".

"This is a matter that can be dealt with through diplomatic channels, the Interior ministry and the joint border commissions," she said at the KICC on Tuesday.

"We have to say things we can verify and ensure your security otherwise it would boomerang on us."

"A President who cannot defend the territorial integrity of his country has no business remaining in office," Wandayi

said.

Cord leader Raila Odinga said on March 19 that he will marshal the Opposition to the disputed island from the Ugandan government.

He said the decision was prompted by the President's “failure” to reposses the island, which a colonial map shows is in Kenya.

Two Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission clerks were arrested and their equipment confiscated as they registered Kenyans.
