The inaugural Deaf All Africa Games earlier scheduled for April 14-26 in Nairobi has been postponed to August 6-13.

The Local Organizing Committee made the decision after realising only two countries confirmed their participation.

LOC is also yet to raise money to run the show meaning the Kenya Deaf Sports Federation have no cash to adequately prepare Team Kenya.

“Due to the unavailability of funds and fewer-than-expected teams enrolling for the championship, we have been forced to postpone the games,” said KDSF president Peter Kalae, who is also the president of Confederation of Africa Deaf Sports.

LOC chief executive officer Charles Nyaberi reiterated Kalae’s sentiments saying: “Some decisions are hard to make, but it is the logical one.”

Ghana and Sierra Leone are the only countries that have confirmed.

Ghana confirmed their men’s volleyball and fulsal for both genders, while Sierra Leone confirmed teams in various disciplines.

The LOC has a budget of Sh94m to run the continental deaf sports bonanza.
