Pupil injured after beating by teacher over 'love affair'

A class 7 pupil at a private school in Eldoret is nursing injuries after he was beaten up by a teacher using a wire for allegedly engaging in love affairs.

The pupil was injured on the neck, buttocks and back during the punishment administered by the teacher at Joymax Academy

located at Huruma estate within the town.

Both the school principal

Hillam

Inambutsi

and the teacher admitted that excessive force had been used on the pupil who is in the boarding section of the school.

The teacher said he carried out the punishment

on

a number of class seven and eight pupils who were found to be engaging in love affairs.

“I did not intend to hurt the pupil. He hit a desk and got injured on the neck. I also used a wire to cane him,” said the teacher.

Father to the injured pupil said he discovered the child had injuries when he went to visit him at the school. He has reported the case to the police.

“The school never informed me about the incident which happened some days ago until I went to school only to find that my son had injuries on the neck, buttocks and the back”, the father said.

Police are investigating the incident.
