Kasarani cop accused of robbing MPesa shop at gunpoint

A police officer has been accused of robbing Sh40,000

from an MPesa agent's shop at gun point in Roysambu, Nairobi on Monday morning.

A bodaboda rider who sought anonymity said the officer attached to Kasarani police division

was armed with a pistol during the

9 am

incident.

The MPesa shop owner

said the officer posed as a client who wanted to withdraw Sh50,000.

"I told him I only had Sh40, 000 cash. He brandished a pistol and grabbed the money and varnished on foot," the shop owner said.

Boda boda riders pursued the officer who vanished into Kasarani police station. A rider said the officer who

was in plain clothes

wore a hood.

Kasarani OCPD Robinson Mboloi confirmed the suspect is his officer.

"It is true he is a police officer at Kasarani and we have started investigations, " Mboloi said. He said the officer has disappeared.

Mboloi said the shop owner has recorded a statement.

Recently armed robbers stole unknown amount of money from an MPesa shop in Roysambu.

Two people sustained gunshot wounds while one was shot dead during the robbery.
