A University of Nairobi student who allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death will be remanded for 14 days to allow police complete investigations.

Police said on Thursday that they intended to take Sheila Atema, 19, for a medical examination.

Kibera Senior principal magistrate Shadrack Mwinzi said the case will be heard on March 31.

Atema was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly committing the crime after a quarrel with her 25-year-old Kevin Ikatwa, in Nairobi's Kangemi area. She was taken to Kabete police station.

She is a first-year student at the University where her boyfriend also studied.

Ikatwa, alias Razor, was a

Bachelor of Arts student who also played midfielder for National Super League Wazito Football Club.

Nairobi CID boss Ireri Kamwende said police went to their house after neighbours informed them of commotion.

Kamwende told The Star Ikatwa was found

lying dead on the bed and had three stab wounds to the chest.

Cases of domestic violence leading to death have been on the rise in Nairobi, police citing claims of infidelity in most of the incidents.

A policewoman was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly her husband following reports of mistrust in their relationship.

Police said the officer based in Mariakani shot the man several times in the incident in Kilifi county.
