THE Pokomo Council of Elders will pick a leader to run for Tana River governor against incumbent Hussein Dado.

The council is headed by Bakari Kirago and Alex Komora from Tana River and Tana Delta subcounties respectively.

A meeting was held at Hola Primary School with four aspirants including

Danson Mungatana, Major (Rtd) Dhadho Godhana, former teacher Bakari Garise and Livestock executive Adam Barisa.

The council discussed the direction of the community.

Elders are expected to support one aspirant to avoid a repeat of the confusion that characterised the last general election.

Aspirants' ethics, morality, credibility, efficiency and ability to deliver are some of the factors which will be used to choose a candidate.

Komora said choosing one candidate will ensure political aspirants unite the community.

He said votes were

split during the 2013 general election because too many aspirants ran for the same seat.

"We want to know the mandate of each aspirant. We will advise each aspirant based on the remarks we will come up with," Komora said.

He warned politicians against importing voters.

Bakari Kirago, the chairman of the council of elders in Galole, Tana River subcounty, urged residents to register as voters and requested them to apply for ID cards.

Speaking to the Star, Godhana said the process, by Gasa council of elders, will help come up with a qualified candidate.

"This process is good. Let the elders digest and come up with the list of aspirants. This is a

transparent process,” he said.
