Cord leader Raila Odinga will be in Israel on a week-long visit where he will address the first Africa and Israel Policy and Leadership Conference on Governance in Africa.

Raila left for Israel Saturday evening and was accompanied by Senators Agnes Zani and Anyang Nyongo.

The conference kicks off on Monday, March 7, and ends on March 10, hence the Cord leader will not be present during the by-elections in Kericho and Malindi.

A survey last week indicated in Malindi, which could explain Raila's decision to take the trip and miss the by-election.

The poll by East Africa Dataline Consult showed ODM's Willy Mtengo would get 54 per cent of the votes in Malindi against Jubilee's Philip Charo's 33 per cent.

Various African and Israeli leaders are expected to address the meeting, which features sessions on Governance, Education, Sustainability, the Middle East and Public Diplomacy.

The Conference will take place at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which will host it jointly with the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace and the Africa Centre for Peace and Democracy.

Raila's visit comes a week after , the first by a Kenyan president in 22 years, to cement security and trade relations.

On his visit, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Reuven Rivlin and Head of Opposition Isaac Herzog.
