Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to find a lasting solution to the Maela land clashes in Naivasha.

He said on Sunday it is necessary to prosecute those involved in fraudulent deals in Ng’ati Farmers’ Co-operative Society.

“Senior people in administration and the county government of Nakuru are beneficiaries of land in Ng’ati. It would be wrong to let them walk scot-free without taking action against them,” Ngunjiri said.

The clashes have lasted three weeks.

Property belonging to directors of the land-buying company has been destroyed, classes disrupted and 30 people arrested.

Ngunjiri spoke in the constituency while educating residents on the need to register as voters.

The MP, a member of the Standing Committee on Lands in the National Assembly, said they will put pressure on the government to resolve the Ng’ati issues.

On Saturday, 10 MPs visited residents in Maela and accused Kengen of illegally acquiring land belonging to the cooperative society.

“There’s a risk of more violence erupting if the stand-off is not resolved,” Ngunjiri said.
