Cotu’s Atwoli gets a national Algerian award

COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has been awarded for efforts in fighting for workers’ rights and the improvement of the African labour movement.

Atwoli was awarded with the highest distinction – The National Order of Merit – by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

The ceremony took place in Algiers on Friday and saw Atwoli receive the award from President Bouteflika’s personal aide Akka Salah.

Algerian Labour minister Mohamed Ghazi, Kenya’s Ambassador representative Boniface Munzala and Algerian Trade Union Organisation secretary general Sid Said were present.

President Bouteflika said: “Atwoli’s selfless efforts to unite the African labour movement has been recognised.”
