Deputy President William Ruto returned to Kericho county yesterday to lead Jubilee leaders in campaigning for party candidate Aaron Cheruiyot ahead of the March 7 senator by-election.

The position was left vacant after Charles Keter was appointed CS.

Ruto led the Jubilee team in a series of rallies.

Those who accompanied him are Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, MPs Jackson Kiptanui (Keiyo South), Eric Keter (Belgut), Jackson Rop (Kipkelion West), Joseph Limo (Kipkelion East), Justice Kemei (Sigoin-Sigowet), Benjamin Langat (Ainamoi) and former Cabinet minister Franklin Bett.

Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony and Deputy Governor Susan Kikwai were also present.

The leaders addressed several campaign meetings in Londiani trading centre, Kunyok, Fort Tenant, Torit Primary School, Chepsion trading centre, Ainamoi and Roret grounds.

Ruto elaborated the government’s agenda for the county, including construction of roads, and also said the state will ensure all primary schools countrywide have electricity.

It is also working to scrap examination fees for standard eight and form four candidates, he said.

Ruto said the Jubilee administration has connected 14,000 schools to electricity in two years, as opposed to 8,000 done by successive governments.

“We have done a lot for Kenyans within a short time compared to what was done by successive governments in the last 50 years,” he said.

The DP directed that all homes near transformers be connected to electricity, whether they are permanent or temporary houses.
