Magerer Langat has dismissed claims by DP William Ruto that electing Kanu's Paul Sang for Kericho Senator will "pluck the Kipsisgis community from government".

Magerer said his party is a coalition partner in Jubilee and asked the Deputy President to "stop antagonising the Kalenjin community by sneaking in divisive politics".

"It would be hypocritical for the second-in-command to claim electing Sang would push the Kipsigis to the opposition," said the Kanu campaign team coordinator.

"At one point we as Kalenjin were all in the Opposition, including William Ruto," he further noted in his address to Kanu supporters at Manyoror Secondary School on Monday.

Magerer, who is a former ODM executive officer, was on the campaign trail with Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto ahead of the March 7 by-election.

He hit out at leaders including the DP, whom he said were dwelling in smear campaigns against Kanu and resorting to abusive language during their campaigns for Jubilee candidate Aaron Cheruiyot.

"Instead of selling their agenda to the masses, Jubilee campaigners were hurling insults at their challengers in the race,” he said.

"They have even abused Rutto who was elected by more than 300,000 votes during the 2013 general election."

Rutto accused the DP of going round the South Rift promising to set aside millions for development projects that he said were not forthcoming.

He said Ruto was yet to implement promises the Jubilee government made on construction of roads, teachers’ salary increase and job creation for youth.
