A Jazzy Week-long Fest

In the runup to the Safaricom Jazz Festival that took place yesterday, Michael Joseph Centre has been the venue of several jazz gigs hosted by various envoys.

On Tuesday evening, the British Council in Nairobi hosted a night of jazz in honour of the visiting Sons of Kemet band. The group formed in 2011 is made up of Shabaka Hutchings, Oren Marshall, Seb Rochford and Tom Skinner. They played some of the favourite hits till late in the night.

In attendance was the British Council country director Tony Reilly, British Chamber of Commerce Kenya director Radhika Moolraj and Oxford Business Group country director Veselina Kracheva.

Come Thursday night, the Israeli embassy hosted a jazz night performance from visiting artistes Maya Belsitzman and Matan Ephrat. With Maya on the vocals and Matan on the cello, the duo created such spectacular harmonies it was quite compelling to watch.

Present at the performance were UN Women deputy regional director Eastern and Southern Africa Simone ellis Oluoch-Olunya, Israel ambassador Vahel Vilan and KLM sales manager Kenya Hildabeta Amiani.
