Vihiga MCAs have threatened to sue Senator George Khaniri for saying some of them were bribed to shoot down a report on misuse of money in the county.

They spoke to the press outside the Vihiga county assembly on Thursday.

On January 22, the senator said he has information some MCAs were paid Sh300,000 each to vote against the report on the county’s Sh2.5 billion debt.

Ten MCAs, led by Nixon Butiya (Shiru ward), said they went through the report and found it had very many “unclear things” so they voted against it.

He said Khaniri should have sat down with them before accusing them of bribery and taking the petition to the Senate.

On Thursday Khaniri tabled a petition in the Senate asking senators to allow the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Director of Public Prosecutions to investigate misuse of money in Vihiga county.

Butiya said: “It is very wrong for the senator to move around in funerals making claims that we were given Sh300,000 each to kill the report.”

He said the county assembly is at liberty to make its own decision.
