The Tharaka Nithi government has set up a Sh30 million bursary to help needy students complete their education.

The fund will finance students for primary, secondary and tertiary education.

So far, 150 students have benefited from the kitty.

Some Sh5 million has been disbursed.

Yesterday, Governor Samuel Ragwa told the press at Mitheru market in Maara ward, his government will continue disbursing cash to raise education standards.

He urged the national government to stop delaying the disbursement of funds for devolved functions.

Ragwa said his government has paid university examination fees for 180 students at Chuka University.

Two of them, Purity Njeru and Francisca Kamathi, thanked the county for its help.

Kamathi said: “After applying for the county bursary last year, I’m happy my fees balance has been fully settled.”

Ragwa said 18 residents have been employed to head polytechnics.

Another 42 teachers will be hired to train youths in masonry, plumbing and mechanics.

“We have also rehabilitated 78 Early Childhood and Development Education centres across the county and my government is hiring teachers,” Ragwa said.
