Restore Kenya's sporting glamour, Ruto tells Nick Mwendwa team

The DP has asked the newly elected FKF team to ensure transparent and accountable management to restore Kenya's sports "glamour".

William Ruto said the public expects change as the proper management of football

would transform the lives of many youths.

“We must allow football to return to its old days when Kenyans loved the sport, when players played for the love of the sport and when Kenyans went to watch games,” Ruto said.

“The people demand that newly elected officials exercise the highest level of integrity in the management of football for the sake of the children."

Ruto asked Football Kenya Federation officials, led by new chairman Nick Mwendwa,

to realign their constitution with the new sports act.

Youths must demand success form the federation as Mwendwa is a youthful leader, he said, adding his onerous duty is to renew FKF ties with the government and Fifa

“Next week, Fifa gets a new President. FKF and Fifa are beginning new eras of transparency and goodwill. Our doors in government are open to the two new presidents of football, " he said.

He spoke during the launch of Chevrolet and One World Play Project at the Safaricom Stadium Kasarani in Nairobi on Friday.

The Deputy President noted that Kenya is dominant in sporting activities such as athletics, rugby and Javelin, but that the game in the hearts of all is football.

“We must make it a success and initiatives like this are a big step towards the goal," he said, adding the government has set aside Sh500 million for refurbishing the

Anti-Doping Agency ahead of the Olympics.

Ruto called asked the government, the federation and the private sector to partner in improving the sporting standard.

Mwendwa pledged to transform football management saying major changes are required for success.

“I m promising the children of Kenya a new beginning," said the chairman following elections on Thursday.

Sports CS Hassan Wario there should be a tax waver on sporting equipment to encourage growth.

One World Play Project coordinator Rita Cress said they have embarked on a mission to provide five balls to every primary school in the country.

Ruto said the project is noble and will enable those who love football to spend more time developing their sporting skills.
