THE Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday was granted more time to consider whether a murder suspect will plead to a lesser charge of manslaughter.

Ruth Wanjiku, 21, is accused of stabbing her boyfriend Farid Mohammed to death on September 19 last year.

She allegedly killed him in Buru Buru estate, Nairobi county, over a love text message sent by another woman.

Through her lawyer Kennedy Nyachoti, she said she was still negotiating with the DPP for a lesser charge.

Wanjiku said she did not intentionally kill Farid, whom she had dated for a year.

Lawyer Nyachoti took over the case after her previous lawyer withdrew from the case, citing personal reasons.

The judge directed the case to be mentioned on February 22 for further direction.

Wanjiku alias Biggy is remanded at the Langata Women Prisons.
