THE High Court has stopped the reconstitution of the University of Nairobi governing council.

Resident Thadayo Obanda obtained court orders from Justice Weldon Kirui yesterday.

Education CS Fred Matiang’i had on January 16 advertised vacancies in the governing council.

Two members, Betty Gikonyo and Joseph Hamisi, had resigned, saying the row between vice chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi and his deputy Bernard Njoroge was hurting operations.

Interviews were to start at 2pm at Jogoo House yesterday.

Obanda also wants Matiang’i’s directive stopping the current council from discharging its duties quashed.
