A charcoal making company that recycles environmental waste to make fuel has received Sh110 million ($1.1 million) from ICDC to finance expansion of its factory.

Global Supply Solutions will use the funding to double capacity from the 25,000 metric tonnes of eco-friendly pineapple charcoal briquettes produced annually to 50,000 metric tonnes.

The money will also be used for expansion into other countries, the company said. Global Supply Solutions makes charcoal briquettes from pineapple plant waste and has a long term supply agreement with Del Monte, a major grower, for the supply of the raw material.

ICDC credit manager Edward Gitau said the factory's production capacity can be improved to produce more than 250,000 tonnes of the briquettes per year.
