Three people suffocated to death after inhaling fumes from a lit jiko in Mukuru slum Nairobi.

The two women and a man are believed to have slept with windows closed after they left food on the jiko

(charcoal cooking stove), police said.

The victims, who are Ugandan nationals, have been living in the house since last year.

Their bodies were taken to City mortuary.

Attempts to reach Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome for comment remained unsuccessful.

Last week, a sister to the late Angela Chibalonza was in her house in Nyayo Estate Embakasi in similar circumstances.

Mammy Runiga reportedly had a jiko in the bathroom which she wanted to use to clear her blocked nose.

Runiga was found dead in the bathroom after suffocating from the jiko's fumes.
