More than 200 staffers of the Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company have threatened to boycott work in 14 days over an alleged plan to sack a director.

The officials of the Kenya County Government Workers Union Nawassco branch issued the strike notice on Wednesday.

They accused a company director of planning to remove MD James Ng’ang’a from office using the courts.

“We are ready to go on strike in the next two weeks if one of the company directors does not drop his plot to remove the managing director,” union secretary general Francis Makokha said.

He said the director, whose term has expired, is pushing for Ng’ang’a’s sacking on grounds that he oversaw the ‘unprocedural hiring’ of two employees.

“All the workers are in solidarity with the MD and, as such, any move to remove him from office will be met with great opposition,” Makokha said at a press conference on Wednesday at the company.

He said they will not allow the return of bureaucracy in the management of Nawassco.

“Since Ng’ang’a was confirmed to the position of MD, the company has witnessed great transformation,” Makokha said.

KCGWU Nawassco branch chairman Zephaniah Nyambane said Ng’ang’a has implemented a salary negotiated by the union last year, and improved industrial relations and water and sewerage services. He said the petitioner is using the courts to intimidate Ng’ang’a, a move they will not condone.

The Nakuru Labour Relations and Employment Court on February 16 will hear a notice of motion to have Ng’ang’a removed from office.
