NO SUPPORT: The Bungoma assembly last June 18.

Bungoma county assembly speaker John Makali has criticised for its poor response.

He said this weakens the assembly’s representation and oversight role.

Makali said only 11 out of 61 statements were responded to during the third session.

He said reports need to be brought to the assembly on time to give committees room to study them.

Makali addressed the assembly during the opening of the fourth session on Tuesday.

The Bungoma County Youth, Women and Persons with Disability Enterprise Development and Bungoma County Emergency are among the pending fund bills.

Makali said several bills signed into law are yet to come into operation due to delays in publishing them in the Kenya Gazette.

He urged the assembly committees to speed up and complete all pending business.

Makali said stringent budgetary ceilings have adversely affected the work of the committees.

He called for increased public participation.
